Calling It Quits
Beginning in 2014, mega-cap tech titan Apple was rumored to begin developing outside its normal product range. As a competition to Tesla, Apple was allegedly entering the electric vehicle space; as a secretive effort along a team dubbed the Special Projects Group, Apple recruited automotive engineers to establish autonomous vehicles nearly 10 years ago. Now, as reported on Tuesday, Apple has seemingly given up on these grandiose plans to continue its engineering efforts for its EV.
Although the news may not seem significant as the process was tight-knit, the reports of Appleās venture have kept true fans of the company enticed for the past several years. The divestiture of the rumored EV business may also signal Appleās attempt to pursue new ventures more closely related to its current product line. One of these may be AI-powered phones, which have been on the landscape for the mobile communications industry this year. During its last customer-facing conference, Apple hinted that its own AI advancements will come to the surface this fall. Although the transition into AI is currently shrouded in mystery, it has been assumed that it may involve either generative tools, iPhone implementation, or more. As the trillion-dollar company continues to make headlines, investors should continue to track the biggest headlines for these mega-caps as their volatility has a strong impact on market movement.
