Poll: Market Impact ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ“‰

Table of Contents

This week, we asked the Invstr Community what they believed would be the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the stock market. The winner was a medium impact, with 41 percent of Invstrs saying that the markets would be somewhat affected by the invasion. This looks to be the smartest answer as itโ€™s in the middle of a market crash and a market boom, where the market could feel some negative effects but not too much to topple it. The โ€œsomewhatโ€ effect is something we are seeing now, with the stock market sitting near correction territory, making this a logical first place vote. In second place is the 33 percent of Invstrs who believe the invasion will crush the markets. Economists have continuously discussed the negative effects of sanctions on current problems such as inflation, and another spike could put the economy and markets in steep trouble. However, most analysts have expressed more optimism about the invasion, saying that it likely wonโ€™t be a bear market scenario unless things escalate further, making this a reasonable pick for the runner-up.

For the bronze, we have the 17 percent of Invstrs who believe the invasion will boost the markets. This makes for a unique opinion as most sentiment about this war has been negative, but the scenario for a peace treaty is still possible. However, further escalation by Russia in the past 24 hours makes this an unlikely ending, and a surprising podium finish. Finally, in last place is the belief that the invasion will have no effect at all with 9 percent of Invstrs voting for this. This was discussed on Tuesdayโ€™s Crunch, where analysts at big firms like Moodyโ€™s expect there to be little to no impact on the US economy due to the strength itโ€™s displaying. The same goes for other countries around the world, but the war has had an impact on the markets the last few days. This option could have pushed for a higher place, but 4th is what itโ€™ll take in this poll.
