The United States remains the most sought after country to live and work. It’s the ‘land of opportunity,’ the biggest economy in the world. It has a “secret sauce” that unleashes the potential of a people, and it’s overcome countless obstacles down the years.
You’ll probably go broke if you short the United States, but that’s not the point. For the Invstr community, it’s about opportunity cost.
There are fast-growing emerging markets out there trying to replicate elements of the American formula, and shorter-term, Stateside stocks have strayed dangerously far from underlying economic conditions. We’ve never seen low-interest rates lift stocks higher while unemployment soars and industry forecasts worsen. The argument is compelling for markets to retreat.
