We’ve seen serious and sarcastic ones about government policy or lack of, and ones about activists like Greta Thunberg. Memes are a powerful way to communicate ideas, especially in the investment world where users on WallStreetBets can organize a short squeeze whenever they feel like it. Luckily for climate change activists, Reddit is here to help once again, specifically in the field of clean energy.

Recently, WallStreetBets has been flooded with posts about uranium mining companies, spreading awareness about its use in the future of clean energy, with others comparing the opportunity to GameStop. You might know uranium for its connection to the word nuclear, and if you watch the news, you are probably thinking about Iran. Uranium can help build nuclear weapons, but it’s also a key part of nuclear energy, which people dub to be the ultimate killer of fossil fuels. It isn’t unreasonable as China and the US have been backing nuclear energy, and the industry is poised to grow further. Uranium companies received their benefits, with Cameco becoming the third highest mentioned company in the forum and rising a lot during pre-market hours. Other companies like Peninsula Energy saw their stocks rise in global markets as most of them aren’t listed in US stock exchanges, but it shows how Reddit had a global effect.
