Stephen Curry’s NFT Collection
There has been a surge in NFT popularity in recent times, with soccer players, sports teams, and even some championships, such as Formula One, offering them to fans.
Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry is partnering with sports apparel brand Under Armour on an NFT drop to celebrate his new record as the National Basketball Association’s all-time top three-point shooter.
The seven-time NBA All-star is the latest prominent athlete to have his own collection.
The Golden State Warriors Point Guard last week surpassed the all-time three-point NBA record by sinking his 2,974th career shot.
In honor of the historic achievement, Under Armour will be releasing 2,974 NFTs titled “Genesis Curry Flow” collection that are digital replicas of the game-day shoe Curry was wearing when he broke the record – the Curry Flow. Each shoe NFT can be worn across three gaming metaverses — Gala Games, Decentraland, and the Sandbox.
“With the stature of Stephen’s achievement, we wanted to do something that truly ‘changed the metaverse game for good,’ and so the notion of the first sneaker that can travel across the platform and have genuine functionality and performance was born,” said by creative agency Berlin Cameron.
Curry plans to gift 200 NFTs to individuals who helped shape him into who he is today, including high school teachers, Golden State Warrior fans, Davidson University, previous coaches, neighborhood friends, his SC30 team, and family.
With this first NFT drop, Under Armour follows its two largest competitors, Nike and Adidas, into the world of digital collectibles.
