Just as it seemed COVID was truly ending it may not be over just yet… or ever. No matter how many mask mandates drop, or regulations are lifted, there always seems to be another variant of the COVID-19 virus just around the corner ready to surprise the world. At this point, however, it’s not much of a surprise. The newest “variant” if you will of COVID is actually a “sub-variant” of the already known Omicron. It is called “stealth Omicron” and has been rampaging across many regions of Europe. Indeed, COVID cases in the U.K have increased recent weeks, with Germany continuing to mark record high daily infections with more than 250,000 new cases a day.
The name of the subvariant is called BA.2 and makes up around 11% of cases in the U.S. Stealth is 1.5x more transmittable than Omicron and is being closely monitored by public health officials and scientists. Stealth Omicron is also harder to detect and via. PCR tests when compared to the Omicron variant because of its genetic mutations. Depending on the degree to which it spreads across the U.S the markets could be further slowed and bearish, especially as the variant would pile as more sad news on top of Ukraine conflict. What do you think about the Stealth variant? Will it be a major market mover over the next few months? Or is COVID and all its variants already factored into the market completely?
