Silence is an Answer Too
American brand Jeep, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler, has taken a page out of Tesla’s playbook with plans to unveil a hybrid electric model of their flagship Jeep Wrangler SUV. This, along with a concept version of the resurrected Grand Wagoneer will both be presented online at 9 a.m on Thursday.
When you think about the traditional Jeep, you think gas-guzzler out in nature or maybe a sunset ride with the doors ripped off. Fiat Chrysler’s adoption of electric vehicles has been slower than molasses. This pursuit is speeding up though as the company said all of its Jeep models will offer full or partial electrification by 2022.
The push towards new segments of the automobile sector presents a big opportunity for the company. The vehicles are expected to compete in the luxury SUV space and a fully-loaded Grand Wagoneer could set you back around $100,000.
The automobile industry continues to innovate and move forward. Engines are getting smaller and with Tesla’s recent success, it comes at no surprise that big brands like Jeep are looking for different ways to swallow a piece of the pie. In 100 years, will people only see gas stations in history books?Â
