For some, going to the pharmacy to pick up a month’s worth of medication has been an important ritual that has never been skipped over. Amazon has taken the step to shake up consumer habits once again with its introduction of Amazon Pharmacy.
Now, Amazon will allow customers to get medication without ever leaving their home. The company described the service as it being “The same browsing experience customers are familiar with from Amazon makes it easy to discover medications — including branded and generic versions, and different forms of dosages — are available through Amazon Pharmacy.”
Customers will have the ability to use a pharmacy profile on Amazon’s website which allows them to add insurance information, manage prescriptions and pay for medication online. Shipping and delivery have been one of the things the company is best-known for. Will this act as a test to show to what extent Amazon gets things right?
As consumers continue to move towards online shopping, Amazon Pharmacy now poses a serious business threat to companies in the pharmacy retail business. On Tuesday, Walgreens Boots Alliance and CVS shares decline heavily following the announcement.
Will Amazon be able to fend off competitors and revolutionize yet another industry?
