Pokemon Launches ‘Sleep Gaming’
The Pokemon Company has decided it wants to ‘turn sleep into entertainment’ with its latest game, Pokemon Sleep. Say what??
The Pokemon Company, that got gamers off the couch and flocking to the streets in its augmented reality phenomenon, Pokemon Go, is now looking to change the gaming world again by introducing sleep gaming by 2020. But how does it work?
Players will use a mobile app to track sleeping patterns and cycles which translate into gameplay points…Sign me up! The product diversification strategy is a ploy by Pokemon and its main contributor, Nintendo, to attract non-core gamers and tap into the growing health-tracking services market. That’s some pretty innovative thinking.
The recent success of the ‘Detective Pikachu’ movie, which raked in a handy $120m, has shown that the brand has plenty of room for scalability and expansion beyond just its games. Pokemon’s success also comes against the backdrop of swelling demand for its Super Mario products and anticipation for the construction of a Nintendo-inspired section at Osaka’s Universal Studios theme park. Nice work, Nintendo!
Its share price has also been outperforming the market this year, rising 39% since the start of 2019. Continued innovation by its core business and partner firms should be a considerable driver in 2019. And at a juicy 26% below its all time high, investors will be paying close attention to its future releases.
