ChatGPT Gets Funded – Microsoft’s Big Investment into the Future
Stirring both the internet and corporations alike, ChatGPT’s craze has had everyone wondering exactly what the future will hold adjacent to this promising new technology. Now, after weeks of rumors, Microsoft has officially signed a multiyear investment with ChatGPT’s creator OpenAI. Although the exact financials of the agreement weren’t disclosed, several hypothesize the investment to be upwards of $10 billion. In the past month, it was reported that OpenAI had offered to sell portions of their equity, valuing themselves at close to $29 billion. Regardless, this is, however, not Microsoft’s first investment into OpenAI. As OpenAI began working alongside Azure, Microsoft’s cloud platform, their partnership began in 2019 after an initial investment of $1 billion. Ever since then, Microsoft has been their exclusive cloud provider and seems ready to establish itself as a large player in the growing artificial intelligence industry.
Although most may know OpenAI for ChatGPT, a trained probability tool that can generate text based on specific prompts, what several may not know is they are regarded as one of the best AI labs in the world. Aside from ChatGPT, they have an automatically generating image tool named Dall-E as well as a firm presence in the video game market. Nevertheless, ChatGPT has caught the attention of search engine companies such as Google, who believe this new technology has the power to change web browsing and information reception, although this can be years into the future.
