Lock Down
Security is one of the biggest concerns in this day and age. Some companies have been tackling this head on. For example, Apple has announced a new feature for iPhones called Lockdown Mode on Wednesday, to protect high-profile users such as politicians and activists against state-sponsored hackers. This move marks one of the first major protective actions by a tech company to help out users. Why this feature doesnโt apply to more people is hard to say, however, the technology is definitely in place and a good step towards an improvement in overall security.
The specifics of the security are interesting. For one, it disables many preview features such as iMessage, limits JavaScript on the Safari browser, prevents new configuration profiles from being installed and blocks wired connections. Together, these features prevent the deviceโs data from being copied and shut down incoming Apple services requests, including FaceTime. Another feature of Lockdown Mode is it turns off several features on the iPhone in order to make it less vulnerable to spyware. This feature makes it a significantly more difficult attack by deleting the number of features that attackers can access.
