AI Rush – The Latest AI Ventures
The AI space is becoming extremely competitive, regardless of whether it’s for our benefit or demise. One of these competitions is threatening the grounding of one of the most stable big tech companies: Alphabet. OpenAI’s collaboration with Microsoft to build a new Bing search engine has impressed users to a worrying degree, but there hasn’t been a direct threat at Google’s business. This was until Samsung, a product of Alphabet’s Android software, announced that they were considering changing the default browser on their devices from Google Chrome to the new Bing search engine, where $3 billion in revenue lies. As other companies like Apple consider this change, Google is now in overdrive attempting to build a new search engine powered by AI while upgrading its current one with artificial intelligence features. Any change to the current engine will likely take time to get used to all across the world as there are billions of people who use the search engine, and we’ll have to see if this ends up going better than the original Bard pitch.
Someone who has spoken openly about the possible demise of humanity as a result of AI is visionary Elon Musk, who was one of many tech executives who signed the letter calling for a pause in development past GPT-4. Despite this, Musk has created a new AI company called X.AI Corp in order to compete with OpenAI, the company Musk himself co-founded before leaving. Musk claims GPT has political biases that need to be solved, but other than that there hasn’t been much discussion regarding this AI venture. However, it is important to note that this looks to be part of Elon Musk’s X Corp, which means it will go towards his effort to create an everything app called X, one of his justifications for the Twitter acquisition.
