Video Transcript

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): Sports is mainly referred to as a type of entertainment but when it come to a type of sport from an investment type of view it’s serious business.

MICHAEL JARMAN (Football Agent) : The first one generally generates $150 billion dollars globally on an annual basis. Things like If you look at the key tournaments like the World Cup generates about $4 billion dollars every 4 years. The Premier League generates like £3.3 billion pounds. Yeah, it generates a lot of money because if you look at a global global scale you know what sport really drives and is closest to everyone’s heart. Yeah, it’s going to be football. It’s a global scale, is a global platform. Fans are from all over having an opinion on it and follow it. So, I think from an investment perspective it’s got to be the biggest.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): So if this sounds like a winning investment idea this is how you can go about doing it. You can buy shares in any listed sports clubs, shares in companies that make sports clothing or equipment, shares in fitness clubs, or if you are really rich buy your own team. And of course investing in media companies that broadcast the games.

GIAMBATTISTA ROSSI (Sports Market Expert, Birkbeck): In the media industry related to sport is the most interesting because we still don’t know how we can exploit maximum the social media within sports. So we are starting for example now to see that Twitter will probably soon broadcast sporting events.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr):  But like with all investments there are risks.

MICHAEL JARMAN (Football Agent): A lot of the successes from sports come from performances that you are managing to achieve any successes on pitch, or on field, or wherever it may be. A lot of that is actually driven by what type of return you are getting from achievements.

GIAMBATTISTA ROSSI (Sports Market Expert, Birkbeck): When it comes to sports the result of the product every week is different and so it is very unpredictable and this is an example of what happened with Leicester or Portugal when they won the Euro Cup. Nobody predicted this and this can create for some clubs strength and stability.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): And on the invstr app we have games which allow you to invest in sky, Nike, to name a few sports companies and it’s totally risk free.
