Video Transcript

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr):  Fintech which stands for financial technology is booming. Fintech companies are changing the way we lend, spend, and invest our money and this is threatening the business for traditional financial services and banks and we’re talking billions of dollars.

CLARE FLYNN LEVY (CEO, Essentia Analytics): The finance industry is massive. Money is what makes the world go round and it is an area where there’s been very little innovation for a very long time. You know we’ve all been paying for things on credit cards which is really a 1950s technology.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr):  For Invstr’s Kerim, FinTech is all about making finance more accessible.

KERIM DERHALLI (CEO, invstr): It’s about getting access to information it’s about connecting with other people. It’s about collaborating and sharing with other people. And to me fintech should be about and my definition of fintech really is about anything that helps the individual take control of their financial affairs.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): And this is what Clare thinks the future holds for FinTech.

CLARE FLYNN LEVY (CEO, Essentia Analytics):  When I look at things in the enterprise space which is where we deal you know technologies that actually help banks do their job better and you know the idea that banks just ceased to exist i think is a bit naive. That technology has barely even begun to gather momentum. It’s more complicated. It’s harder to identify with and so it’s harder to jump on that bandwagon. But i think that’s early in its life cycle whereas some of the the more sort of consumer based technology spaces there’s a lot of hype and it’s getting a little bit overheated and you could expect to see some fallout from that.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): Make sure you check out the invstr app for more news about Fintech.
