invstr Meets – Susanne Chisti, Fintech entrepreneur and author
Susanne Chishti is an Entrepreneur and Investor with strong fintech expertise. the CEO of FINTECH Circle, Europe’s 1st Angel Network focused on fintech opportunities and the FINTECH Tours, Chairman of FINTECH Circle Innovate and Co-Editor of the Bestseller “The FINTECH Book” – the 1st Crowd-Sourced Book on Fintech globally.
Her list of credentials is long and impressive. Susanne was working in fintech before the term even existed, and has 20 years of experience of implementing technology solutions for banks. She has operated for years at the highest echelons of Deutsche Bank, Lloyds Banking Group, Morgan Stanley and Accenture in London and Hong Kong. She now devotes much of her time to supporting fintech startups.
‘The FINTECH Book’, was a collaborative project which she initiated after attempting to purchase a book about the $20 billion fintech industry and realizing, to her amazement, that not one book had been written about it.
She is also University Lecturer at the ESCP Europe Business School for the “Certified FINTECH Course”. She is recognised in the European Digital Financial Services ‘Power 50’ 2015, an independent ranking of the most influential people in digital financial services in Europe. She was selected as top 15 FINTECH UK twitter influencers and as “City Innovator – Inspirational Woman 2016”.
She is also a mentor, Judge & Coach at FINTECH events and competitions such as SWIFT Innotribe, Cambridge Judge Business School Accelerator, Fintech Startup Bootcamp and Barclays Techstars Accelerators. She combines more than 14 years’ experience across Deutsche Bank, Morgan Stanley, Accenture and more with her robust knowledge of the fintech sector.
Susanne has commented extensively on how she believes financial technology will change the industry forever. She brand’s the change ‘a fintech revolution’
Not least in asset management and trading. In one of her many keynote speeches, she discussed in detail the impact on these areas from fintech. She said: “I think that asset management and trading are being disrupted by fintech in a very positive way, we see companies developing solutions which really help asset managers to be more productive, to lower their cost base, to acquire customers in a more automated way, which is better for the whole industry.”
On the topic of startups, which she invests time in supporting, she said: “We see all heads of innovation making serious efforts to work with start-ups, because it makes sense to work with fintech entrepreneurs to develop cutting-edge new solutions that can be brought into a bigger group and achieve scale,” she added “To compete with tech giants you need fintech start-ups on your side”.
“The good thing is what the start-ups can focus on the customer. The big companies, with their legacy systems of IT plumbing, take ages to change things. The new start-ups can start up with the best technology available – new models of engagement. These start-ups use Twitter and Facebook and know how to engage people – they are not waiting for them to drop into their branches. It’s not just a technology change, it’s a mental change.”
“I think we have got what it takes in this country. I worked in IT in Silicon Valley at the time the internet was just being invented, and I get the same feeling in London now – the same vibrancy is in the air. The reason I believe London will be the global leader is that the US IT capital in California and the financial centre in New York are five hours apart, whereas in London you have two industries in one place. You have everything here.”
As a startup fintech business based in London with a strong passion for providing financial education we couldn’t agree more!
