Human Touch
Since the birth of the first Sci-Fi film, the question of whether humans will eventually be replaced by robots or not has been on our minds. With the world of robotics growing at such a fast pace in recent years, many companies have experimented with using robots to help manage business operations.
Walmart, for example, has been experimenting with robots across a small number of stores and are used to see if shelves were stocked. According to the Wall Street Journal, a Walmart spokesperson said there were about 500 robots across the company’s 4700 stores.
Recently, Walmart announced that it has ended its contract with Bossa Nova Robotics, the robotics company behind the machines, after saying that “people can do about the same work”. It was also noted that there were worries about customer reactions to the robots.
The Journal’s report stated that Walmart has created simple and cost-effective ways to manage the inventory of their shelves with the help of workers rather than robots.
For the people who’ve claimed that the technological revolution will take away many if not all jobs, these are eye opening developments. One thing robots will ever be able to replace is a human’s touch.
