Hack Washington
As Federal Authorities reported that Russian hackers meddled with the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, the composition of Washington’s cyber security protocols have come under question. As this year’s elections near, the implementation of a strong and robust defense to cyber-attacks and hackers will be crucial in the execution of a fair election.
Last week, hackers launched a cyber-attack against Washington State Agencies using sophisticated malware such as Trickbot and Emotet. Emotet is known as being one of the most dangerous malwares as it is very hard to detect. The average estimated cleanup cost of an Emotet attack is $1 million.
The attacker’s motive is still unknown. It is unclear whether any data has been stolen or if they plan on releasing some type of ransomware to attack individual cities and businesses across the United States.
In a world that is run on computer systems and artificial intelligence, the inability to guarantee a secure environment for workers and government systems can mean the difference between a regulated society and pure anarchy. Keep your passwords close and your cybersecurity software closer!
