Google to block crypto ads – BTC prices keep falling

by | 14 Mar, 2018

Google has announced it will ban ads for unregulated or speculative financial products including cryptocurrencies across its platforms from June this year.

The move, which will see ads being pulled from sites like Facebook and Instagram among others, will include content about ICO’s, wallets and trading advice, according to Google’s Director of sustainable ads Scott Spencer.

Spencer said of the policy: “We don’t have a crystal ball to know where the future is going to go with cryptocurrencies, but we’ve seen enough consumer harm that it’s an area we want to approach with extreme caution.”

Meanwhile in the crypto market itself, prices for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin among other favourites continue to fall or stagnate this month, off the back of tightening regulations from authorities on the asset class and exchanges.

The bull run in cryptocurrencies came to an abrupt end in December 2017, just in time for Christmas. Though this has reduced investor enthusiasm for the asset class, more and more companies are beginning to utilize the underlying technology of digital assets – blockchain. According to Forbes, even the U.S. government is showing interest in adopting blockchain technologies to streamline certain projects. So even if king crypto Bitcoin or its close relations fall totally out of favour, we can be sure that blockchain’s influence is here to stay.
