Video Transcript

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): Hi Kwai Chi. So, you’re a bit of a social media celeb. How many followers do you have across all my social networks?

KWAI CHI (Social Media Expert): I have about 110-115 thousand followers.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr):  So your on social media all the time. What do you love about it?

KWAI CHI (Social Media Expert): Social media thing I really love is that there’s a two-way communication there’s two way engagement. You know when I make a video people will tell me quite bluntly that is rubbish or what they would like to see different.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr):  So let’s focus on social media in the finance industry. What do you think about what’s out there? Do you think it’s engaging enough?

KWAI CHI (Social Media Expert): I think too much of the focus and attention of that content is still directed only to those guys who really understand it and it’s kind of making an elitist and kind of portion of knees. I think the more you could popularize it the more likely it is for you to find the next star trader from the street rather than from a bank.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr):  So just like us here at invstr, you think it’s important to break down those barriers and make finance more accessible?

KWAI CHI (Social Media Expert): Understanding the financial markets better helps me to be able to go into a fund and go analyze it and go “okay this is actually probably going to make more money over the next 25 years.” I’ll put my money there instead.  If there’s an IPO a lot of these government IPOs, like the Royal Mail, are meant for the mass public you know. When they sold off utilities it was meant for the mass public. But because so little so few people understand it, it is always the elite who  end up buying all the stuff and reaping all the rewards and that’s not really fair.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): Okay, so let’s talk about you again. Do you get recognized on the street?

KWAI CHI (Social Media Expert): Loads of stuff has happened. I mean even this morning when I took an hour and 12 minute walk to get to here from the station and some guy just stopped me on the street and said, “Kwai.” And I was like, “What? Who was that?” It wasn’t somebody who saw me off of youtube. It wasn’t somebody who saw one of my pics off Instagram. It was someone who read one of my LinkedIn articles.

LEA JAKOBIAK (Reporter, invstr): Finally Kwai, what would be your top tip to be successful on social media?

KWAI CHI (Social Media Expert): You want to be successful on social media you have to engage with other people. Whether it’s on camera and talking face-to-face in the lens or if it’s just commenting back to other people’s comments those are really important things that are often overlooked.
