The Rally in The Valley – Elon Musk vs Mark Zuckerberg
One thing Americans could’ve only envisioned in the Metaverse: Elon Musk sparring with Mark Zuckerberg in the octagon. This week, tech’s own battles began to creep into their founders too, except, in a surprising twist. Beginning on the Musk-owned social media platform Twitter, the Tesla founder proceeded to respond to a tweet claiming his readiness for a cage match with his billionaire counterpart Mark Zuckerberg. From this tweet, Zuckerberg replied through Meta-owned Instagram, where he simply captioned “send me location”. While the chats were initially recognizable to the public as friendly banter, the comments escalated as Musk placed Vegas as the stage for the presumed fight. Nevertheless, Mark Zuckerberg has recently gained some recognition in the MMA space, winning a couple of Jui-Jitsu tournaments after years of training. Musk noted this and made self-deprecating remarks comparing himself to a “walrus” and claiming the only exercise he gets is lifting his kids in the air. Although improbable, if such a fight were to occur the current publicly voted odds are 77% in Zuckerberg’s favor.
The swordplay between these two uber-billionaires ironically resembles their own businesses’ competition in the social media space. Musk, the recent owner of Twitter, and Zuckerberg, the founder and owner of Meta, have continued to fight for market share in the extremely popular and volatile industry. Throughout tech’s recent rally, Meta shares have made a hefty return of over 140% in just six months, while Twitter’s performance is unknown as they recently went private. However, under Musk’s innovative belt is Tesla, which has amassed almost 115% in the same time span. As everyone can argue with numbers and returns, no one will be able to dispute the winner of the hopeful fight between Chief Twit and the Eye of Sauron.
