Deodorant Recall
Bad news for owners of Old Spice or Secret deodorant — Procter & Gamble is recalling some of its aerosol spray antiperspirants after the company found the cancer-causing chemical Benzene in its products.
Benzene isn’t supposed to be in the deodorant, but testing detected the chemical in many products. Benzene can cause cancers like leukemia and life-threatening blood disorders, so if you own Old Spice and Secret spray deodorants or Old Spice Below Deck spray products with expiry dates through September 2023, your products are being recalled.
If you do own those products, don’t panic. Procter & Gamble says the amount of the chemical detected in its products wouldn’t be enough to cause serious health consequences. The company has received no reports of health events related to the recall either.
This story reminded me of all the people who swear by natural deodorant and will never touch deodorants like Old Spice or Secret. I don’t know what their secret is, but I tried to use natural deodorant and, let me just say, I was back to using my chemical-ridden deodorant the same day. It was almost as if the natural deodorant made me smell worse.
But back to the story — people who purchased the recalled products should throw them away and fill out a form to get refunded. You can learn more about the recall on the Procter & Gamble website.
