The Olympic Games have kicked off in Rio but behind the fanfare and excitement linked to the sporting events lies the reality of Brazil’s economic and political woes; its economy is in recession, its President Dilma Rousseff is suspended and on trial, and the Zika virus is triggering health concerns. The question now is to what extent the Olympics can help turn things around for Brazil.
