Blue Launch
Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are some of the biggest names in commercial space aviation, even though the tech currently existing is more of a trip to the edge of space than fully into space itself, the companies have presented a lucrative opportunity for those who can afford it to see space firsthand. The most recent customer of these companies includes comedian, Pete Davidson. Pete has purchased a ticket aboard Blue Origin’s 60-foot-tall New Shepard rocket. The flight will launch on March 23rd and have four others on board.
The future looks promising for this next chapter of aviation and commercial travel. Blue Origin plans to continue these flights into the future and make them a mainstay of pop culture. Currently, the flight Blue Origin offers is only 10-minutes and extremely expensive. Beyond expense, both Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin remain a step behind SpaceX in term of entering actual orbit. So far SpaceX has completed their first-ever all-civilian flight to orbit and will be completing their second later this month – taking four paying customers on a flight to the International Space Station, which orbits about two hundred miles above Earth. Blue Originโs catch-up plan appears to be a rocket called the โNew Glennโ and it will be powerful enough to reach orbit. Unfortunately, like most industries, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has affected rockets too – with news that Russia may no longer sell rocket engines to the United States. The New Glenn will also be used on an upcoming launch vehicle involving Lockheed Martin and Boeing that is responsible for significant US national security launches. This shows the continuing trend of sharing of technology between the emerging commercial space flight, hypersonic flight, and other private aviation industries and the military. What do you think about this potential emerging tech industry as an investment? And is it creating a more contemporary military-industrial-complex?
