Airbnb Takes On TV
That’s right folks, Airbnb is taking on Hollywood in its latest push to entice customers to travel by offering a range of original shows and content. Say what?!
This latest strategy comes at an important time for Airbnb, which is fighting to distinguish itself from its main rivals Expedia and Booking.com ahead of its upcoming IPO. And this latest push is doing just that!
Airbnb’s CEO, Brian Chesky, said that the company has been mulling the idea over for quite some time and believes its addition will create the ultimate travel experience for its user base. The company has already produced a few documentaries and believes it is ready to start developing both video platform and in-app streaming services. Exciting stuff!
The announcement is sure to add hype to its IPO which is set to be one of the largest tech IPOs in history, predicted to haul in $31bn. Even though the venture is likely to be expensive, the streaming space has become extremely popular in Silicon Valley and could give Airbnb exclusive access to a relatively untapped subscription-based travel TV market.
