Today we are watching…
1. Ford (#ford)
Tesla’s infamous Cybertruck demo came with endless talking points, including a tug-of-war between the pickup and Ford’s market-leading F-150! The Cybertruck hardly broke a sweat during the challenge, but know-it-all Neil deGrasse Tyson believes the F-150 needed a full load to give traction to its rear wheels. So, a Ford exec has challenged Musk to a fairer, “apples-to-apples” tug-of-war. “Bring it on!” he answered before Ford backed out, and the entire internet started making chicken noises! Investors want to know if the Cybertruck is a genuine market share disruptor or merely a beta hybrid with overstated sales numbers. They may soon find out!
2. Papa John’s Pizza (#pzza)
Papa John Schnatter is selling his founding stake in his old pizza chain after being sacked as CEO last year. However, that hasn’t hurt his appetite. In the past 30 days, he claims to have eaten 40 of the company’s pizzas! That’s a lot of pizza, and he’s convinced the recipe has gone off since his firing. Yes, that’s right, Papa John ain’t no fan of Papa John’s no more! Instead, he’s just a disgruntled former employee on the losing side of a stock market wager. Despite calling his replacement, Rob Lynch, someone “dispassionate about pizza and people,” the stock is up more than 55% this year. Schnatter could still be proven right, but for now, the firm’s stock only ticks higher. 40 pizzas?!
