Today we are watching…
1. Disneyย (#dis)
Disney has run its theme parks for over fifty years to โcreate happiness.โ The company sure as heck doesnโt want a killer virus going anywhere them. Attendance was drying up, and a sea of Chinese wearing facemasks had taken some Mouse House magic away from its mega Shanghai Resort, so time to shut down. Lunar New Year week is supposed to be the theme parkโs busiest time, and with theatres shut across China as well to stem the outbreak, Disney shares are taking a beating. The Shanghai Resort has come under fire for expensive food and beverage recently, and the company hasnโt said when the park would be reopened. However, refunds have been issued. This pandemic is getting all too real!
2. McDonald’s (#macd)
Continuing with the coronavirus theme, experts now say the bug is transferrable through the eyes, mouth, door handles, or other unclean work surfaces. The safest place to be, then, is alone in a sterile cleanroom, exactly the opposite of a Chinese inner-city McDonaldโs! The Western franchise has now become the latest to quarantine operations in five Chinese cities, aiming to stem the outbreak, which is currently spreading invisibly at a rate of knots. McDonaldโs executives back in the States are aware of the PR disaster that could be if anyone with the virus was deemed to have eaten in, so theyโre not taking any chances!
